George Campbell Scott (October 18, 1927 – September 22, 1999) was an American actor, director and producer. He was best known for his stage work, as well as his portrayals of the prosecutor Claude Dancer in Anatomy of a Murder (1959), General Buck Turgidson in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove (1964), General George S. Patton in the film Patton (1970), and Ebenezer Scrooge in Clive Donner's film A Christmas Carol (1984).

Before Follow that Bird there was another film proposal in which Big Bird becomes president of the United States. The film would've been a political/musical romp meant to entertain kids and adults. There were two scripts, one involved George C. Scott as the villain planning to put the world in an arms race; the other involved a NAUGHTY group trying to make Big Bird a bad influence by constructing a robot replica of himself.
