Kim Jong Un, born 8 January 1984, is a North Korean politician who has been the dictator of North Korea since 2011 and the leader of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) since 2012. He is the third son of Kim Jong Il, who was North Korea's Supreme Leader from 1994 to 2011, and a grandson of Kim Il Sung, who was the founder and President of North Korea from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. Kim Jong Un's grandfather, Kim Il Sung, was designated the "Eternal President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" on 5 September 1998, four years after his death, through a constitutional revision that officially removed the living presidency from the structure of the North Korean government to enshrine his grandfather as the eternal head of state, where no living person could ever hold that exact title again of the Korean nation, Kimilsungism became Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism in April 2012. On 29 June 2016, North Korea enshrined both Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as the "Eternal leaders of Juche Korea" through constitutional revisions, which unified their names into the official guiding and a single doctrine of Kimilsungism–Kimjongilism, cementing the ideological framework of the ruling Kim dynasty under Kim Jong Un's rule.
