One night when she is on her way home she is attacked by a group of thugs but she was too drunk to fight them and Batman, who she later discovered was her cousin Bruce Wayne saved her She was then inspired to become the vigilante Batwoman who is far more militaristic than her cousin using firearms and is willing to kill if she must Five years ago, while Kate was in the academy her younger sister Alice was kidnapped by the Mad Hatter, but instead of killing her like he does his other victims he kept her brainwashed as his twisted version of Alice from the story for his Wonderland gang When Kate discovers that her sister is alive she sets out hunting down the Mad Hatter and his gang Her father discovers her nighttime identity and helps Kate with becoming a vigilante he had started a security/militia agency in Gotham called the Gotham Crows which is eventually twisted into the Magistrate
