hree years after the death of Jason Todd, Gotham City has become a darker place. Batman has grown increasingly obsessive, pushing Robin, Tim Drake, and Nightwing harder than ever in his desperate attempt to ensure he never loses another partner. When the Joker's latest attack leaves dozens dead, Bruce's refusal to kill his greatest enemy is questioned once again. Before he can process the growing divide within the Bat-Family, Talia al Ghul arrives with a shocking revelation: Bruce has a biological son, Damian Wayne, a gifted but ruthless child raised by the League of Assassins who believes justice is achieved through lethal force. As Bruce struggles to teach Damian the meaning of restraint, Gotham is thrown into chaos by the mysterious Red Hood, whose brutal war against the city's criminal underworld forces Batman to confront the greatest failure of his career. The Red Hood is ultimately revealed to be Jason Todd, resurrected and hardened by the League of Assassins after surviving his murder at the Joker's hands. Believing Batman's refusal to kill has doomed countless innocents, Jason wages war not just on Gotham's criminals but on Bruce's ideals themselves. As Damian is torn between the philosophies of his mother and his father, the conflict culminates in a final confrontation where Batman refuses to sacrifice his principles even when faced with the Joker once again. Inspired by Bruce's unwavering belief that justice must never become vengeance, Damian chooses mercy over murder, rejecting the League's teachings and embracing his father's legacy. Though Jason escapes into the shadows, Bruce gains something he feared he'd never have again: hope that the next generation of the Bat-Family can carry Gotham forward without losing themselves to darkness.
