Three years after the death of Jason Todd, Batman continues protecting Gotham alongside Nightwing, Robin, and Oracle. Bruce's already fractured family is shaken when Talia al Ghul brings his eleven-year-old biological son, Damian Wayne, to Gotham. Raised by the League of Shadows and trained to kill, Damian struggles to understand Batman's refusal to cross that line. At the same time, a mysterious vigilante called Red Hood begins executing Gotham's most dangerous criminals. Batman investigates and discovers the shocking truth: Red Hood is Jason Todd, who was resurrected by the League after his death and has returned to Gotham determined to end the city's cycle of violence permanently. Jason believes Batman's no-killing rule is responsible for allowing criminals like the Joker to keep hurting innocent people. As Jason's war against Gotham's criminals escalates, Bruce's family begins to fracture, while Damian is secretly ordered by Talia to assassinate Jason. The conflict reaches its climax when Jason captures the Joker and forces Bruce to confront his greatest failure. When Damian prepares to kill the Joker, Bruce simply tells him, "This isn't justice." Damian lowers his sword and chooses Batman's philosophy for himself, realizing that Bruce's refusal to kill is ultimately about preventing his family from becoming killers. Jason escapes after destroying the warehouse, leaving his fate uncertain. In the aftermath, Damian chooses to stay with Bruce and officially becomes Robin, while the Bat-Family begins rebuilding. However, the final scene reveals that Jason survived and is still watching Gotham, leaving the door open for his eventual return.
