Batman enters Arkham Asylum under false pretenses and becomes trapped when Hugo Strange initiates a lockdown, claiming the asylum is now his experiment. Inside, Batman faces mutated inmates, including a shape-shifting Clayface, a predatory Killer Croc, and the undead Solomon Grundy—created using Dr. Kirk Langstrom’s research. As Strange tries to break Batman mentally and physically, Langstrom becomes Man-Bat in a desperate bid to help, but loses control. In a fiery climax, Batman defeats Grundy and confronts Strange, who believes Arkham has achieved its true, twisted purpose. Clayface vanishes, Man-Bat escapes, and Batman leaves the asylum changed—unsure what was real and what was illusion.
