Batman follows the trail of the assassin, who attacks him, and he recognizes her as one of Talia Al Ghul's bodyguards. In the struggle, Batman places a tracker on her. Robin shows up to help, but Batman allows the assassin to escape. Batman gives him a blood sample to be taken to the hospital. Batman follows the signal and arrives in an area of the original Gotham. He finds the entrance to Wonder City, where he starts to give in to the disease, having a vision of his parents, being saved by Oracle. She informs him that he shouldn't have many minutes to live. Batman is confronted by the assassins, but is saved by Talia, who is shocked by his face, already taken by the disease. Batman says that he needs to see Ra's, but is told that only the successor can. He convinces Talia that he wants to take the test. Batman drinks the demon's blood, regaining a few hours of life. Taking a journey through a spirit world, guided by Ra's, he is deemed worthy to be the new leader. Batman and Talia proceed to a room, where they find decrepit Ra's. He claims that Batman just needs to kill him. When Bruce refuses, Ra's throws himself into the Lazarus Pit, regaining his health. They fight and Batman emerges victorious. Ra's threatens Talia in hopes of convincing Bruce to kill him, but is knocked out. Batman collects the blood. Ra's says that the pit no longer works as it used to, fearing what it might become. On the surface, Strange reports that Mayor Sharp has been sent to Arkham City.
