Batman arrives at Ace Chemicals. Investigating, he is confronted by a new villain, the Arkham Knight. He controls a militia, which Batman confronts and saves workers, who tell him that Scarecrow plans to produce a chemical explosion that will cover the entire East Coast in fear toxin. Batman gets to Scarecrow, but he reveals that Barbara was kidnapped by the Arkham Knight. The Scarecrow flees, with the explosion about to begin. Batman starts installing cylinders with neutralizing agent, to decrease the blast radius. Alfred pleads with Bruce to flee, as he will die if he stays within the blast radius. Batman ignores. Affected by the fear toxin, The Joker appears and shoots Batman. In the past, Gordon arrives at a deserted Panessa Studios. He tries to open a door, which recognizes his voice and opens. He goes down the elevator, and arrives in a strange room. He analyzes five quarantine cells, three of which contain people who uncannily resemble The Joker. In one of the cells, he finds an apparently normal person, who asks for help to get out. Batman appears and explains that people who have received the Joker's blood are suffering from a disease that causes them to become The Joker. The normal person is immune to the Joker's symptoms and blood. Robin is running tests to find a cure. Gordon says that one of the cells is empty, and Batman responds that he will have someone soon. Batman wakes up to The Joker taunting him. With the place exploding, Batman escapes.
