Amy Lou Adams (born August 20, 1974) is an American actress. Known for both her comedic and dramatic roles, she has been featured three times in annual rankings of the world's highest-paid actresses. She has received various accolades, including two Golden Globe Awards. She has been nominated for six Academy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Adams began her career as a dancer in dinner theatre, a pursuit she followed from 1994 to 1998. They made her film debut with a supporting part in the dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). She made guest appearances on television and took on roles as the "mean girl" in low-budget feature films. A group of teenagers at a Catholic boarding school are rehearsing a production of Romeo and Juliet. At the center of the story are Peter, a sensitive and openly questioning student, and Jason, a popular and deeply religious boy who is secretly in love with him. While Peter wants to live honestly and openly, Jason struggles to reconcile his feelings with his faith and the expectations placed on him. As the school year progresses, friendships are tested and personal conflicts emerge, including issues of identity, desire, and self-acceptance. Jason’s fear of being discovered and his need to appear perfect push him to deny his relationship with Peter, causing emotional distance between them.
