Reed was in the Baxter Building doing a late-night project involving a white version of the Fantastic Four suits when someone came in. He turned around and stretched his hand to someone behind him, but the figure dodged. He said "Dr. Richards. (comes into the light) Nick Fury. Director of S.H.I.E.L.D." Reed asks Fury why he's here. Fury says that his organization had acquired something that is said to be the source of ultimate power. Something dangerous. They can't begin studying it unless they have someone with brains to do so. Fury showed it to him: a glowing blue cube. Reed gave it some thought and said "Why not bring my team?"
