After the catastrophic events of Avengers Civil War, the heroic team faces a new crisis in which alliances crumble and loyalties are tested. Tony Stark, Iron Man, and Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, are placed on opposite sides of a conflict that threatens to splinter the very foundations of the Avengers. It all starts when a mysterious organization known as the S.E.R.P.E.N.T.E. emerges, advocating a more aggressive approach to world security, prepared to take extreme measures to achieve its goals. With the team's recent split, they seize the opportunity to instigate an internal civil war that will only serve their own sinister interests. While Tony Stark firmly believes that the actions of the Avengers must be controlled and monitored by the government, Carol Danvers, as leader of the Avengers, believes that the team must have complete independence to respond to global threats without constraint. Involved in this ideological battle are the members of the Avengers, divided between following Stark or Danvers. On the one hand, Iron Man has the support of Black Widow, War Machine and Hawkeye. On the other hand, Captain Marvel is supported by Black Panther, Scarlet Witch and Vision, as well as other heroes who join their respective causes.
