The honorable Steve Rogers is a supersoldier who acts a sentinel of liberty to protect innocents when donning the star-spangled mantle of Captain America.[2] Initially rejected by the U.S. Army during World War II due to his frail physique, he volunteered for Project Rebirth. The experimental Super-Soldier Serum developed by Dr. Abraham Erskine greatly enhanced his body to the peak of human physicality.[55] Wielding an indestructible shield, Captain America is a master combatant who focus on acting defensively.[2] Alongside his partner Bucky[2] and the Invaders,[56] he helped the Allies win the war, but not before becoming lost at sea and frozen in ice in suspended animation for decades. Having been thawed out in the modern age, Captain America continued to fight for justice alongside his new teammates, the Avengers.[57] Being loyal to no politician or government, Captain America upholds the timeless principles of freedom, equality, and justice.[58] This has earned him an impeccable and inspirational reputation among the super hero community all over the universe.[45][59] Captain America usually struggles with the complexities of morally ambiguous endeavors. His activities, ideals and adventures led him in extraordinary situations as he battled for freedom and justice,[60] usually clashing with malignant tyrants, most prominently the macabre Red Skull,[61] but also forging deep friendship bonds, such as with the high-flying Sam Wilson for example,[62] with whom he shares the Captain America identity.[63]

When a riot breaks out at the Raft, a prison for superhumans, just as Iron Man is taking two men there, he finds himself surrounded by several villains, not only those he and his fellow Avengers have defeated throughout their lives. With no other choice, he calls the Avengers, but perhaps not even the five heroes will be able to resolve the situation. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers tries to accept the fact that he spent decades frozen, that this is no longer his time, that all his friends are gone. He wonders what to do in a world that is no longer his. Upon seeing the news about the riot at the supervillain prison, Steve doesn't hesitate to do what he does best: join the fight and confront criminals. Captain America joins the Avengers to combat the riot and stop these supervillains. However, he is not the only one to join the fight; SHIELD agents Mockingbird and Hawkeye also join the heroes to stop these villains. Now, the heroes must unite, learn how to work together, to stop not only this riot, but also to prevent the prison's radical defense protocol from being carried out, self-destructing, and sinking everyone inside.
