Matt was the lawyer that helped Flint clear his name. He was only recruited because of what Elektra told S.H.I.E.L.D. about him. On the Helicarrier, Logan is not the only one who thinks something is off with S.H.I.E.L.D. Matt had sensed it every time Fury talked. He just never spoke of it because he didn't want to know what S.H.I.E.L.D. would do to him if he figured out about Phase 2.
