When he gets recruited into the Avengers Initiative, he didn't join unless he gets information from Omega Red. During this movie, he slowly bonds with Spider-Man, being the second leader of the Avengers. Even though he didn't catch Omega Red in Germany, something felt off about S.H.I.E.L.D. and why they wanted the Tesseract. He wanted to know what.
