Phil Coulson is the uncle of that kid Spider-Man saved at the Unity Day Festival in 2002. He had brought Spider-Man trading cards from his nephew so Peter could sign them. Coulson is the man that interviewed Wolverine about the Avenger Initiative years before. He is the first human Howard the Duck met after coming back. He is a dear friend of the Fantastic Four. He's sort of like the glue to the Avengers.
