Cletus Kasady was a serial killer who had been apprehended by Spidey after he killed Captain George Stacy and his daughter Gwen offscreen. While Peter was working on Dr. Connors' serum, he accidentally knocked over the last of the Symbiote that created Venom in Spider-Man 3, and it crawled all the way to the prison where Cletus Kasady was. Kasady has an intimidating, and maniacal personality, and the Symbiote amplified that, with the side of Spidey's leftover agility, stamina, and powers that the black goo copied. Only, it was red for Cletus! it enabled him to escape, leaving a trail of dead police officers in his wake. Now he is the bloodthirsty Carnage.
