Nathan Lane, born Joseph Lane on February 3, 1956, in Jersey City, New Jersey, is an acclaimed American actor known for his work on stage and screen. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 1975 and has received numerous awards, including three Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, three Emmy Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Lane made his professional theatre debut in 1978 in an off-Broadway production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". He gained widespread recognition for his roles in Broadway productions such as "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "The Producers," and "Angels in America". After a horrible car accident killed his son, Dr. Tenma creates a robot replica of Tobio, complete with defense mechanisms to prevent a “second death”. Soon Tenma realizes that while the robot looks like his son, it’s not and disowns him. Found by a sleazy circus ringmaster, Tobio, now named Astro Boy, becomes part of a robot circus, where he is treated very cruelly. Soon a professor named Dr. Elefun, who just so happens to be an old colleague of Tenma’s realizes that and smuggles Astro out of the circus. From there Elefun becomes the head of the ministry of science and Astro Boy has to learn about the world and to become the defender of the world
