Little is known about Antonio Rodriguez. He has a criminal record and his wife's name is Maria. Place of birth: San Antonio, Texas. + spoiler + His wife fell ill with an unknown type of illness. Rodriguez took her to various doctors, but none of them could determine the nature of her illness, let alone help her. In desperation, he contacted the scientist, Dr. Karel Malus, a scientist who had been prosecuted for his experiments. Malus accomplished various things, including making substances that gave ordinary mortals superhuman abilities. The scientist agreed to treat his wife, and in return Rodriguez became his experimental subject. Rodriguez underwent an experimental process in which genetic material from an armadillo was introduced into his body. The process caused a drastic increase in Rodriguez's strength, his skin transformed into solid organic steel, and thick hard claws grew on his hands. Malus ordered Armadillo to break into the West Coast Avengers headquarters and steal the body of Goliath, who was being held there and his body was in a coma. But Armadillo found himself in a fight with Captain America. Although Armadillo was physically superior to him, the Captain defeated him. It turned out that everything Rodriguez did was at the discretion of his ailing wife, and Captain America did not extradite him to the authorities.
