After his wedding to Mera, Arthur Curry is officially crowned King of Atlantis. But peace is short-lived. His exiled brother, Orm, Ocean Master, returns with a challenge. Arthur, seeking to avoid civil war, teams with young warrior Garth—Aqualad—to confront Orm. Meanwhile, a new Black Manta emerges, deadlier and more strategic. Arthur discovers this new Manta is Kaldur, son of the original Black Manta and once a secret Atlantean trainee—Arthur's first Aqualad. Kaldur strikes, gravely wounding Arthur. Orm, realizing Atlantis faces a greater threat, puts aside old hatred and helps Mera and Garth hide the wounded king. As Arthur recovers, Kaldur’s forces storm Atlantis. Mera and Garth defend the throne, barely holding the line. Arthur and Orm return, confronting Kaldur in a final battle beneath the sea. Arthur pleads with Kaldur to stop, to come home. But Kaldur, fueled by hatred and seeing Garth in his old role, murders Orm. Rage and sorrow collide as Arthur, with no choice, impales Kaldur with his trident. In the aftermath, Arthur addresses the kingdom, honoring Orm as a fallen hero who died protecting Atlantis. “King Orm Marius is dead,” he says, “but his spirit lives with us.” A wave crashes ashore. As it pulls back, Kaldur’s body lies lifeless on the sand… until his fingers twitch.
