After the sudden deaths of both King Orvax Marius and Queen Atlanna, Atlantis goes on lock down. Orm Marius, the king's son starts preparation for his new reign but the Queen's advisor Vulko goes looking for Queen Atlanna's secret son she had with a sailor decades ago. Vulko knew he was the rightful king of Atlantis and knew his mother wanted him on the throne. When Orm discovers Vulko is missing and gets his location from a seahorse stable cleaner, Garth, Orm sends out a mercenary by the name of Black Manta to hunt Vulko down and kill this supposed "prodigal son". Vulko has to teach Atlanna's son Arthur Curry the ways of the ocean but after an ambush from Black Manta they go on the run which gives Vulko the chance to meet up with the princess of Xebel, Mera, daughter of King Nereus who has the location of the tomb of King Atlan. Once they get there Vulko informs him he can become king, but one of the steps in doing so is by claiming King Atlan's trident by defeating the Karathen and proving himself worthy. They return to Atlantis where Arthur and Manta face off and Arthur, despite some setback, comes out of the fight victorious. He lets Orm know there won't be another fight and he is now King Arthur. In the post credits scene we see Orm walk into a large hallway where he asks a shadowy stranger if there's a purpose for a call. The figure calmly says to him "Welcome Ocean Master".
