James Braddock was a SHIELD agent working under the command of Peggy Carter in the 1970s. On a mission to England, he discovered the Amulet of Right, which gave him mystical powers. He was appointed protector of Earth-616 for the Captain Britain Corps, an interdimensional organisation that guards the Omniverse, powered by energies from the Otherworld, a realm born of the collective consciousness and will of the British people. From then on, he worked as a superhero for SHIELD. When Carter and Howard Stark learned about HYDRA, they asked him to lead the team, which did not necessarily please Hank Pym.
