Isaiah Bradley is a war veteran who involuntarily participated in human trials of the Super Soldier serum in the 1950s. During his time as a super soldier, he had previous encounters with the Winter Soldier but was unable to eliminate him. After the government did not want a black super soldier, he spent 30 years in prison where the US government and HYDRA experimented on him. He was released in the 1980s. Peggy Carter persuaded him to join her team to take down HYDRA and maybe pick up Steve Rogers' shield after all. After van Dyne sacrificed herself, he decided never to have anything to do with S.H.I.E.L.D. again.
