Vera is a freshman in college and good friends with John M. She is guilty of lying on her resume, claiming to be a certified babysitter when in fact she is not. She is also the one to point out the racism in the selection process (the white people all committed major crimes, while the people of color did only minor things such as cheat on a test). In the novel, Vera is one of the last to die, as she hangs herself after believing everyone else to be dead. In the show, she and Owen survive together, as they realize Wargrave's duplicity before either of them can kill the other.
