Owen is a small-time criminal (stealing cars, robbing convenience stores, etc) who does not attend college, but is the same age as the college students. It is heavily implied that he has killed someone before, possibly multiple people, but the nature of this is never fully explored. In the book, he survives almost to the end, but is killed by Vera when they are believed to be the only two people left alive. In the show, he and Vera both survive, as they realize Wargrave's duplicity just as Vera is about to kill him.
