The fifth installment of the Jaws series, as well as the first film in a planned Amity Island trilogy. The new rebooted trilogy completely ignores Jaws 3 and Jaws 4. The film begins at the funeral of Chief Martin Brody, who had just recently died at the age of 85. The funeral is attended by Michael Brody and his brother, Sean Brody. Neither Michael or Sean live on Amity Island. Martin served as Chief of Police until the day he died of a massive heart attack. Residents of Amity described Martin as a ripe old man, but was only a shell of his former self after the Amity Incidents (40+ years prior). The Brody brothers are asked by the residents to choose the new Chief of Police. Amity is now a striving tourist spot. Many condos, hotels, and amusement parks line the coast. The Brody brothers choose Johnathan Lawson, current Police Deputy, to serve as the new Chief. Before the brothers are able to leave the Island, and return back home, they are asked by the new Chief of Police to come with him on a recent call in. What is expected to be a minor boating incident, turns into a major crime scene. A bloody and deadly mess that looks like a man-made homicide, does not trick the brothers. The Brody brothers are well aware what they are dealing with, and must convince the professed residents of Amity that he great-white has returned.
