First Appearance: The Caves of Androzani. Kevin Kline's Sixth Doctor was a controversial take on the character, as Kline played the role as more violent and narcissistic than previous incarnations. His outfit was also garish, being a patchwork of various colors and patterns, which was unpopular with both audiences and Kline himself. The decline in quality during this era is most likely the leading cause for its cancellation in 1989. Kline was eventually fired from the show, despite original plans to last for as long as Wilder, causing him to refuse to film a regeneration, leaving his death open-ended, and requiring Joe Pesci to wear a wig in order to resemble Kline for the regeneration.
