First Appearance: Rose. Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the Ninth Doctor, which was the first incarnation for the reboot series in 2005. This series started afresh, ignoring most of the previous lore surrounding the series, and giving the world a new status quo, with Gallifrey being destroyed during the Time War, by the Doctor himself, giving him a character arc surrounding his grief. Morgan agreed to leave quietly after one series due to a variety of behind the scenes reasons, but the production company broke their promise and went against his wishes, causing animosity between him and the show.
