First Appearance: The Empty Child. Harkness is a human from the Boeshane Peninsula in the 51st Century. He worked for the Time Agency for a time and used a Vortex Manipulator to travel back to London during the Blitz where he would take the identity of a British soldier. While there, he met the Ninth Doctor and Rose, helping to defeat the Empty Child, and got invited to join them as a companion afterwards. At the end of series 1, he dies and is granted immortality by Rose, but is abandoned. He then shows up on multiple occasions after, also starring in a spin-off called Torchwood, about his organisation of the same name.
