Born in 356 BC by Philip the II of Macedon and Olympias of Epyrus, he inherited (after ambiguous and tumultuous circumstances) the throne of his father at the age of 20. After 2 years spent securing his power in mainland Greece and the northern borders, he launched an invasion of Asia, seeking revenge for the invasions of Greece by the Persians 150 years before. He conquered in 8 years Asia Minor, the Levant, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Bactria and India. After his return in Babylon he suddenly died in mysterious circumstances at the age of 32.
