Following the events of The Avengers and later Captain America: The Winter Soldier, resurrected agent Phil Coulson assembles a highly specialized team of operatives, scientists, and field agents to investigate emerging superhuman phenomena, alien technology, enhanced criminals, secret organizations, and unexplained events.
At first, Coulson believes he's building a team capable of protecting S.H.I.E.L.D. from the outside.
He doesn't realize the greatest threat is already inside the organization.
