Frank Horrigan is the main character, played by Clint Eastwood, in the 1993 political action thriller film In the Line of Fire. Horrigan is a Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to save President John F. Kennedy from assassination in 1963.
Driven by guilt and a determination not to fail again, Horrigan is reassigned to the Presidential Protective Detail to investigate and stop a clever, psychopathic former CIA assassin named Mitch Leary, who is threatening the life of the current U.S. President.
He works alongside a younger agent, Lilly Raines, and his character is partly inspired by the real Secret Service agent Clint Hill, who expressed similar guilt over the JFK assassination.
