Hjalmar Poelzig is the primary villain of the 1934 horror film The Black Cat. He was portrayed by the late Boris Karloff, who also portrayed Frankenstein's Monster and Gustav Niemann in Universal Studios' Frankenstein films, Imhotep in The Mummy, Fu Manchu in The Mask of Fu Manchu, Dr. Scarabus in The Raven, and The Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
