He was also known to have a striking resemblance to his counterpart Darnay, and it was from his resemblance that he saved Darnay and his family by switching places with him while awaiting execution. Carton lived a hopeless life but redeemed himself by leaving behind his past sins and forever living on in the memories of Charles and Lucie.
