This is a story that mentions common spam vectors like mentioning skincare product in the beauty industry, adding a random https:// blurb, and asking What is (insert wildcard)?. Also, a link that shouldn't be here: https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Raidarr I'm here because someone keeps mentioning this site on a platform I administer and I have experience with issues like these, so I make suggestions and test the anti-spam measures so I can leave feedback on the forum when I get access. This section is limited so my suggestions are very general and I am willing to elaborate or tailor to what's going on in contact through my registration email. After this effort I will probably leave unless I'm solicited to help whack spam. Off the top of my head a few things come to mind. One is integrating StopForumSpam at least in some way. Another is softblocking/flagging VPN providers proactively. Lists are available through venues like github. I know IP whacking is limited in value at best. Another is flagging posts and stories with the flaggable bits above for review. They should be accepted/rejected before being publicly visible. This should be altered to fit your means. You may consider a delegated role of well-intended users with only one purpose: check new user queue, approve if not spam or forward to mod team if spam. This may partially help with having willing users but ones not trusted enough with sensitive account data like moderators.
