The story follows young detective Alice Feeling, whose merchant father remarries after being widowed by her mother. Eager to support him, she welcomes her stepmother and her daughters, ember and tracie, into the new home. However, when her father suddenly dies, she finds herself at the mercy of a cruel and envious family. Alice must discover that her stepmother and stepsisters are murderers by her father's killer and her friend Janette Mendoza, with the help of her school friends.
