Born to an ugly, hunchbacked woman and the king of Mali, the crippled Sundiata is destined to be king but his older brother Dankaran usurps his throne. After the invasion of his father's reign from the evil sorcerer-king Soumaoro, Sundiata forms an army of thousands to take back his kingdom and to make it the biggest empire West Africa has ever seen.
