Andrew Russell Garfield (born August 20, 1983) is an British-American actor and producer. He came to international attention when he co-starred in Never Let Me Go (2010) alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley, as well as the supporting role ofย Eduardo Saverinย in the dramaย The Social Networkย (2010). He gained wider recognition for playing Peter Parkerย in the superhero filmsย The Amazing Spider-Manย (2012),ย The Amazing Spider-Man 2ย (2014), and inย Spider-Man: No Way Homeย (2021).
He is Jewish on his father's side, and describes himself as a "Jewish artist". Garfield began taking acting classes in Guildford, Surrey, when he was nine, and appeared in a youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone. Garfield made his British television debut in 2005 appearing in the Channel 4 teen drama Sugar Rush. In 2007, he garnered public attention when he appeared in the series three of the BBC's Doctor Who, in the episodes "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks".
Garfield received nominations for theย Academy Award for Best Actorย for his portrayals ofย Desmond Dossย in the war filmย Hacksaw Ridgeย (2016) andย Jonathan Larsonย in the musical dramaย Tick, Tick... Boom!ย (2021). He also won aย Golden Globe Award for Best Actorย for the latter. His other film credits includeย Never Let Me Goย (2010),ย Silence (2016),ย The Eyes of Tammy Fayeย (2021) andย We Live in Timeย (2024). On television, he starred as aย Mormonย detective in the crime drama mini-seriesย Under the Banner of Heavenย (2022), for which he was nominated for aย Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
