Andrew Russell Garfield (born August 20, 1983) is an British-American actor and producer. He came to international attention when he co-starred in Never Let Me Go (2010) alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley, as well as the supporting role ofΒ Eduardo SaverinΒ in the dramaΒ The Social NetworkΒ (2010). He gained wider recognition for playing Peter ParkerΒ in the superhero filmsΒ The Amazing Spider-ManΒ (2012),Β The Amazing Spider-Man 2Β (2014), and inΒ Spider-Man: No Way HomeΒ (2021).
He is Jewish on his father's side, and describes himself as a "Jewish artist". Garfield began taking acting classes in Guildford, Surrey, when he was nine, and appeared in a youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone. Garfield made his British television debut in 2005 appearing in the Channel 4 teen drama Sugar Rush. In 2007, he garnered public attention when he appeared in the series three of the BBC's Doctor Who, in the episodes "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks".
Garfield received nominations for theΒ Academy Award for Best ActorΒ for his portrayals ofΒ Desmond DossΒ in the war filmΒ Hacksaw RidgeΒ (2016) andΒ Jonathan LarsonΒ in the musical dramaΒ Tick, Tick... Boom!Β (2021). He also won aΒ Golden Globe Award for Best ActorΒ for the latter. His other film credits includeΒ Never Let Me GoΒ (2010),Β Silence (2016),Β The Eyes of Tammy FayeΒ (2021) andΒ We Live in TimeΒ (2024). On television, he starred as aΒ MormonΒ detective in the crime drama mini-seriesΒ Under the Banner of HeavenΒ (2022), for which he was nominated for aΒ Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
