After his defeat, Robotnik found research about a source of ultimate power located in an ancient location known as Angel Island, populated by powerful and noble warriors known as the Echidnas. Robotnik goes to Angel Island and encounters the last of the Echidnas . . . known as Knuckles, on the search for the same source of power Robotnik looks for: the Master Emerald, hidden somewhere at an altar on the island. Robotnik sees this as an opportunity and says that a great evil is coming for the Emerald. "A blue hedgehog, and a freaky fox." The only truth he told was that a great evil wants the Emerald for himself (that great evil being Robotnik).
