Emerald Lilly Fennellย (born 1 October 1985)ย is an English actress, filmmaker, and writer. She has received numerous accolades, including anย Academy Award, twoย BAFTA Awards, and nominations for threeย Primetime Emmy Awardsย and threeย Golden Globe Awards.
Fennell first gained attention for her roles in period films, such asย Albert Nobbsย (2011),ย ย Anna Kareninaย (2012), andย The Danish Girlย (2015). She gained prominence for her starring role in theย BBC Oneย drama seriesย Call the Midwife (2013โ2017) and for her portrayal ofย Camilla Parker-Bowlesย in theย Netflixย drama seriesย The Crownย (2019โ2020), the latter of which garnered her aย Primetime Emmy Awardย nomination.
As a writer-director, Fennell is known as theย showrunnerย for season two of theย BBCย spy thriller seriesย Killing Eveย (2019), which earned her twoย Primetime Emmy Awardย nominations. She made her feature film directorial debut with the thrillerย Promising Young Womanย (2020), for which she won theย Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and received nominations forย Best Pictureย andย Best Director.
