David Jude Heyworth Lawย (born 29 December 1972) is an English actor. He beganย his careerย inย British theatreย before landing small roles in various television productions and feature films. Law gainedย international recognitionย for his role inย Anthony Minghella'sย The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), for which he won theย BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Roleย and was nominated for theย Academy Award in the same category.
Law found further critical and commercial success inย Steven Spielberg'sย A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001),ย Sam Mendes'ย Road to Perditionย (2002), Minghella'sย Cold Mountainย (2003), for which he earned Academy Award and BAFTA nominations, in addition to the dramaย Closerย (2004) and the romantic comedyย The Holidayย (2006). His subsequent roles were asย Dr. Watsonย inย Sherlock Holmesย (2009) andย Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadowsย (2011), a youngย Albus Dumbledoreย inย Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) andย Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledoreย (2022), andย Yon-Roggย inย Captain Marvelย (2019); all of which rank among his highest-grossing releases.
