Emily Kathleen Anne Mortimerย (born 6 October 1971) is a Britishย actress and filmmaker. She began acting in stage productions and has since appeared in several film and television roles. In 2003, she won anย Independent Spirit Awardย for her performance inย Lovely and Amazing. She is also known for playing Mackenzie McHale in theย HBOย seriesย The Newsroomย (2012โ2014). She co-created and co-wrote the seriesย Doll & Emย (2014โ2015) and wrote and directed the miniseriesย The Pursuit of Loveย (2021), the latter of which earned her a nomination for theย British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She provided Sophie's voice in the English-language version ofย Howl's Moving Castleย (2004). She starred inย Scream 3ย (2000),ย Match Point(2005),ย The Pink Pantherย (2006),ย The Pink Panther 2ย (2009),ย Lars and the Real Girlย (2007),ย Chaos Theoryย (2008),ย Harry Brownย (2009),ย Shutter Islandย (2010),ย Cars 2ย (2011),ย Hugo(2011),ย Mary Poppins Returnsย (2018), andย Relic(2020).
