James Paul MarsdenΒ (born September 18, 1973) is an American actor. He began his acting career by guest-starring on the television showsΒ Saved by the Bell: The New ClassΒ (1993),Β Touched by an AngelΒ (1995), andΒ Party of Five (1995). Marsden gained fame for his portrayal ofΒ CyclopsΒ in theΒ X-MenΒ film seriesΒ from 2000 to 2014, and for his roles in the filmsΒ The Notebook (2004),Β Superman ReturnsΒ (2006),Β Hairspray (2007),Β EnchantedΒ (2007),Β 27 DressesΒ (2008), andΒ Anchorman 2: The Legend ContinuesΒ (2013). He portrayedΒ John F. KennedyΒ in the drama filmΒ The ButlerΒ (2013) andΒ Tom WachowskiΒ in theΒ Sonic the HedgehogΒ film seriesΒ (2020βpresent).
Marsden starred in the science fiction seriesΒ WestworldΒ from 2016 to 2022 and in the black comedy seriesΒ Dead to MeΒ from 2019 to 2022, for which he received a nomination for aΒ Critics' Choice Television Award. He played guest roles in the Modern FamilyΒ (2011) andΒ 30 Rock (2012β2013) sitcoms. He starred as a fictionalised version of himself in the mockumentary seriesΒ Jury Duty (2023), for which he received nominations for aΒ Golden Globe AwardΒ and aΒ Primetime Emmy Award. Marsden has since starred in the thriller seriesΒ ParadiseΒ (2025).
