Samuel Marshall RaimiΒ (/ΛreΙͺmi/Β RAY-mee; born October 23, 1959)Β is an American filmmaker. He is best known for writing and directing theΒ Evil DeadΒ trilogyΒ (1981β1992) and directing theΒ Spider-ManΒ trilogyΒ (2002β2007). He also directedΒ DarkmanΒ (1990),Β The Quick and the DeadΒ (1995),Β A Simple PlanΒ (1998),Β The GiftΒ (2000),Β Drag Me to HellΒ (2009),Β Oz the Great and PowerfulΒ (2013), andΒ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
His films are known for their highly dynamic visual style, inspired by comic books and slapstick comedy. He founded the production companies Renaissance Pictures in 1979 andΒ Ghost House PicturesΒ in 2002. Raimi has also produced several successful television series, includingΒ Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995β1997), its spin-offΒ Xena: Warrior Princess (1995β2001), andΒ Ash vs Evil DeadΒ (2015β2018) starring longtime friend and collaboratorΒ Bruce Campbell, reprising his role in theΒ Evil Dead franchise.
