Quinta Brunsonย (/หkwษชntษ/; born December 21, 1989)ย is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for creating, executive producing, co-writing and starring as second-grade teacherย Janine Teaguesย in theย ABC comedy seriesย Abbott Elementaryย (2021โpresent). Brunson gained prominence for her self-producedย Instagramย seriesย Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. She went on to produce and act in videos forย BuzzFeed Video. She developed two streaming series withย BuzzFeed Motion Pictures.
At theย 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, she became the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy category,ย receiving nominations forย Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Seriesย (which she won),ย Outstanding Comedy Seriesย (as an executive producer), andย Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. At theย 75thย ceremony, she became the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy in over 40 years. Brunson was honoured with a 2022ย Peabody Award for her work onย Abbott Elementary. She was also placed on theย Timeย 100ย Most Influential People of 2022 list.
Brunson has acted in the seriesย iZombie,ย Single Parents, andย Miracle Workers; provided voice work forย Lazor Wulfย andย Magical Girl Friendship Squad; and starred in the first season of theย HBOย sketch comedy seriesย A Black Lady Sketch Show.
