Jesse David Armstrongย (born 13 December 1970) is an English screenwriter and producer. Known for writing for a string of several critically acclaimedย British comedyย series as well as satirical dramas, he has received numerous accolades, including twoย BAFTA TV Awards, threeย Golden Globe Awards, threeย WGA Awards, and eightย Emmy Awardsย in addition to nominations for anย Academy Awardย and twoย BAFTA Film Awards.
He first gained prominence co-creating the British comedy showsย Peep Showย (2003โ2015) andย Fresh Meatย (2011โ2016) with his writing partnerย Sam Bain. During this time, he wrote for the political satire seriesย The Thick of Itย (2005โ2009) and co-wroteย In the Loopย (2009), the latter of which earned himย Academy Awardย andย BAFTAย nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also co-wrote the filmsย Four Lionsย (2010) andย Downhillย (2020). Armstrong wrote and directed the television filmย Mountainheadย (2025).
He gained acclaim for creating theย HBOย comedy-drama seriesย Successionย (2018โ2023), earning four consecutive wins of theย Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for writing episodes of theย first,ย second,ย thirdย andย fourthย seasons ofย Succession.
