Nicholas Britellย (born October 17, 1980) is an American film and television composer. He has received numerous accolades, including anย Emmy Award, as well as nominations for threeย Academy Awardsย and aย Grammy Award. He has receivedย Academy Awardย nominations forย Best Original Scoreย forย Barry Jenkins'sย Moonlightย (2016), If Beale Street Could Talkย (2018), andย Adam McKay'sย Don't Look Upย (2021). He also scored McKay'sย The Big Shortย (2015) andย Viceย (2018). He is also known for scoringย Battle of the Sexesย (2017),ย The King (2019),ย Cruellaย (2021), andย She Saidย (2022).
Theย HBOย original seriesย Successionย (2018โ2023) marked Britell's entry into television. Britell scored all four seasons, earning theย Emmy Awardย forย Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Musicย inย 2019.ย His scores for the second, third, and fourth seasons ofย Successionย each earnedย the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Seriesย nominations inย 2020,ย 2022, andย 2023. His score forย The Underground Railroadย was nominated for theย Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Specialย inย 2021.
