Andrew Scott (born 21 October 1976)ย is an Irish actor. Known for his roles on stage and screen, hisย accoladesย include aย British Academy Television Award,ย Silver Bearย Berlin International Film Festival, and twoย Laurence Olivier Awards, along with nominations for threeย Primetime Emmy Awardsย and threeย Golden Globe Awards.
Scott firstย came to prominenceย portrayingย James Moriartyย in the BBC seriesย Sherlock (2010โ2017), for which he won theย BAFTA Television Award for Best Supporting Actor. His role as the priest in the second series ofย Fleabagย (2019) garnered him wider recognition. It earned him theย Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He is also known for his roles in the filmsย Prideย (2014),ย Spectreย (2015), andย 1917 (2019). He was nominated for aย Golden Globe Award for Best Actorย for his starring role in the romantic drama filmย All of Us Strangersย (2023). In 2024, he starred asย Tom Ripleyย in the thriller seriesย Ripley, for which he received Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award nominations as well as aย Peabody Award.
On stage, Scott played the lead role ofย Garry Essendineย in a 2019 production ofย Present Laughterย atย The Old Vic, for which he won theย Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor.ย He also won theย Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatreย in 2005 for his role inย A Girl in a Car with a Manย at theย Royal Court Theatre.
