Joanna Marion ScanlanΒ (born 27 October 1961) is a British actress and writer. On television, she is known for her roles inΒ The Thick of ItΒ (2005β2012),Β Big SchoolΒ (2013β2014),Β Puppy Love (2014),Β No OffenceΒ (2015β2018),Β Requiem (2018), andΒ The LarkinsΒ (2021). She was nominated for threeΒ BAFTA TV AwardsΒ forΒ Getting OnΒ (2009β2012), including two for Best Writing.
Scanlan's film appearances includeΒ Girl with a Pearl EarringΒ (2003),Β Notes on a ScandalΒ (2006),Β The Invisible WomanΒ (2013), andΒ Bridget Jones's BabyΒ (2016). She won theΒ BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading RoleΒ for her performance in the 2020 filmΒ After Love. She was the first personΒ since 2003Β to win the award without being nominated forΒ the corresponding Oscar.
