Ellen Mirojnickย (born 7 July 1949 inย New York City) is an American costume designer.ย She is a frequent collaborator of actorย Michael Douglas, having overseen the costume design for the filmsย Fatal Attractionย (1987),ย Wall Streetย (1987),ย Basic Instinctย (1992),ย A Perfect Murderย (1998),ย Wall Street: Money Never Sleepsย (2010) andย Behind the Candelabraย (2013).ย The wardrobe she created for Gordon Gekko's characterย inspired aย fashion trendย in the late 1980s and early 1990s for boldly patterned ties, sleek suits, crisp white shirts, and colourful suspenders in men's business wear.ย She has also been a frequent collaborator of directorsย Jan de Bontย andย Paul Verhoeven, acting as costume designer on de Bont's filmsย Speedย (1994),ย Twisterย (1996) andย The Hauntingย (1999), as well as Verhoeven's filmsย Basic Instinctย (1992),ย Showgirlsย (1995),ย Starship Troopersย (1997) andย Hollow Manย (2000).
She won an Emmy and aย Costume Designers Guildย Award in 2013 for her work on theย biopicย Behind the Candelabra. In 2016, she was given the Career Achievement Award by theย Costume Designers Guild.ย In 2017, she gained further praise for her work on the biographical musical drama filmย The Greatest Showmanย starringย Hugh Jackman, which garnered her a nomination forย Excellence in Period Filmย with the Costume Designers Guild.ย In 2023, Mirojnick received acclaim for her costume design inย Christopher Nolan's epic biographical thriller filmย Oppenheimer, starringย Cillian Murphy,ย Emily Blunt, andย Robert Downey Jr., for which Mirojnick received nominations for anย Academy Award for Best Costume Designย and aย BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design.
